When looking at luggage solutions for your bike they are all listed by their litre sizes. Whilst there isn’t anything practical that is more accurate than this I know that I personally would struggle to be able to tell the difference between 26 litres and 30 litres. Obviously one is bigger than they other but how much bigger and what difference does it make to the size of the box?

So to help you all out I’ve created this guide to help get a perspective as to how big the various Givi Luggage kits actually are…

This guide isn’t going to be an in-depth product focus but an overview so you can judge how many litres capacity you need when shopping for luggage.

First up at 6 litres is the Givi T481

Givi Easy Range T481

Givi Easy Range T481 at ghostbikes.com

So there it is, you can use the helmet for scale, the Givi T481 inside our very own ghostbikes.com shop! It’s a soft micro tank bag with an advertised 6 litres. Inside this I managed to comfortably fit a T-shirt, a pair of heavy motorcycle gloves and three bottles of muc-off helmet cleaner.

At 13 litres we have the T470 in compact form.

The Givi T470 Tank Bag holds 13 litres when in compact form and holds comfortably holds the gear above. A fair amount more compared to the 6 litres before, you could get jeans and a top inside or any combination similar to the gear that I managed to get in instead if you wished.

Inside I managed to comfortably fit, a pair of motorbike gloves, a big bottle of tire puncture filler, a large aerosol can, a T-shirt and a pair of Hornee Kevlar Jeans. In the side pockets I easily got my MP3 player in there and a packet of wet wipes. For more information on the T455 see my other blog entry here

The Givi Silver Range T470 Tang Bag holds 21 litres when extended and is marginally more than the Givi T455 tunnel bag we just looked at. I found it easily swallowed a change of clothes, 1 large bottle of muc off puncture repair fluid, gloves, balaclava. There is a pouch on the underside that I didn’t quite catch in the video that holds a waterproof compartment for Sat Navs or mobile phones etc.

At 33 litres here we have the Givi Silver Range T477.

Givi T477 Silver Range Roll Bag at ghostbikes.com

The T477 is a mid sized Roll Bag in the silver range from Givi that despite it’s modest stature absolutely devours just about any luggage you want to throw at it. Weighing in at 33 litres capacity the form factor of this bag allows you to really maximise space inside and accessing your stuff inside is easy with the wide zip seam on top and to the side. I managed to fit tons of stuff into this bag, motorcycle textile trousers, jeans, t shirts, lunchbox, chain, packs of socks, a can of WD40, drink, phone, wallet, big tube of work wipes, underwear – all sorts.

Make sure you have a caution sign up whilst this bag is open, it doesn’t look massive but you could lose a small child down there…

Hope this was of help to you all! ‘Til next time, HBW.

The Yamaha Majesty scooter consistently gets great reviews for it’s comfort, quietness and handling. Givi support this bike with both the Monolock and the Monokey range.

The Majesty needs either a corresponding Monokey plate for Monokey Top Cases, the SR46, or the SR46M, which is designed for Monolock top cases. Click here for the differences between Monolock and Monokey in case you don’t already know.

The nice thing about both the SR46 and the SR46M plate kits are that the Monokey includes the plate M5 with it, and the SR46M kit utilises the plate that comes with any Monolock box. Essentially there isn’t anything else you need to buy apart from the top box in order to get going!

There is also a replacement screen called the 130DT, it is only available in the clear, transparent style and measures 69.2cm x 68.2xm (HxW). In order to fit this screen you require the D130KIT.

Finally there is a back rest available for pillions, the TB46.

Givi Yamaha Majesty

In addition to the hard luggage Givi make a scooter tunnel bag which I have done a write up here for you.

Top Cases

The Varadero has one specific plate made for the bike designed to hold Monokey Cases, the E222 with this you can fit any box from the Monokey range, not the Monolock range (See below).

Panniers

There are two pannier holders for the Varadero, one designed for the Monokey Side, and one for the regular Monokey cases. For the regular monokey cases you need the PL177, for the Monokey Side cases (The V35 Panniers) you will need the PLX177. Bear in mind that the PL177 and the PLX177 fit entirely different case designs and are not compatible with one another.

Specific Screens

There are two different types of Givi Screen available for this Varadero, one with a tinted screen and one without. The tinted screen is the D300S, the clear screen being the D300ST, both measuring 60cm x 48cm (HxW), both of these are 9cm higher than the original.

Engine Guard

There is a specific guard available called the TN454 that keeps the engine clear if you lose the bike in cold weather or take a spill.

TN454 Givi Varadero Engine Guard

Awarded 5 stars for quality and reliability by MCN the CBF600 S/N offers a sprightly step into motorcycling for new riders and people getting back into biking. Massively popular and good looking too Givi have all the fittings covered.

Topboxes

In order to mount a givi topbox to the bike you will need the specific arms, the 260FZ. Once the arms are on you decide which type of topbox you want, the Monokey or the Monolock. See here for a seperate guide detailing the differences between the two types of topbox. One point to mind is that the Givi arms are not compatible with the Honda original side case holder so if your bike has these installed then they will need to be removed.

The arms will allow the mounting of either a Monokey or Monolock plate depending on what kind of luggage needs you have. The monokey plates that are accepted on these arms are either the M5 plate which comes in black nylon and will accept a Givi brake light kit, or the M11 plate which is finished in steel but will not accept a brake light kit. For the monolock plate you need the M5M plate.

You should now have the arms, correct plate and your choice of topbox fitted and ready to go!

Givi 260FZ Arms with PL174 hard pannier supports

Panniers

In order to fit panniers with the 260FZ arms you need the tubular pannier holder, the PL174. These holders will take any Monokey pannier except the V35 Monokey Side cases which instead require the PLX174.

The PL174 pannier holders are reliant on the Monorack 260FZ arms being present. If you need to fit panniers and you don’t want a top box then you are limited to using the v35 Monokey Panniers which can be fitted onto the rapid release pannier rack, the PLXR174, or the non-rapid release, the PLX174 along with a PLX174KIT. The important thing to note here is that this kit will not work with the regular PL174 nor the regular Monokey Panniers, it’s for the v35 Panniers only.

If you wish to use the Givi soft panniers rather than the hard ones and have no need for a topbox then there is a solo pannier support available called the T218 which holds the panniers away from the bike’s exhaust system.

Accessories

There is a specific, transparent screen available called the D303ST which is clear and designed for the faired version of the bike. It is 12.5cm higher than the factory standard and is a direct replacement which does not require an additional fitting kit for this.

There are no specific tinted screens as a direct replacement however Givi make a range of universal tinted screens that would be suitable as long as your bike is naked/not faired.

In addition to this there is a specific engine guard, the TN369 available for bikes that are for bikes ’04 – ’07 and the TN456 for bikes from ’08 – ’09.

Allegedly 9 out of 10 new riders preferred the Kawasaki ER6 ’05 – ’08 over any other middle weight bike. Kawasaki came into the market with their ER6 and simply dominated, leaving the other manufacturers wondering what happened. A victim of it’s own success in lightweight engineering there are not as many fitting kits and solutions available for this commanding mid range as some other bikes in it’s class but they are explained below for those that have picked up an ER6.

Topboxes

In order to mount a topbox to the bike you will need the specific arms, the 445FZ. The arms only support one type of Monokey plate at this time, the M5M, usually Monokey luggage will hold up to 10 Kgs in weight however because of the lightweight subframe of the ER-6 the maximum weight this box will hold in this instance is 6 Kg and no more!

Givi 445FZ

Givi 445FZ Arms with PL174 hard pannier supports.

Panniers

The ER6N accommodates the Givi V35 Panniers using the PLX445 in conjunction with the 445FZ Monorack arms. At this time if you just want the hard panniers then you will need the Monorack regardless of whether you need a topbox or not. If you want soft panniers and don’t need a topbox then you’ll need the T262 which is a tubular support that holds the soft panniers free from the hot exhausts.

Accessories

There is a specific, transparent screen available called the D404S which is lightly tinted and designed for the faired version of the bike. It is 8.5cm higher than the factory standard and is a direct replacement which does not require an additional fitting kit for this.

Should you wish to fit the Givi universal screens 245N, 246G730 or the 246N902 then you need the fitting kit A448A for this bike, the listed screens are recommended since they have a black inlay which prevents reflection from the headlamp.

Givi ER6N

Givi Kawasaki ER6N

Topboxes

To mount top boxes to the BMW R1200 GS there are several options available.

1. If you wish to keep the original side case from BMW then you can use the SR692 which is an aluminium finished plate for Monokey cases. Because the plate is not a replacement entirely it can only hold 6 Kg instead of the usual 10Kg.

2. If you need the plate to hold 10Kg then a replacement part for the original rack Givi part number SR689, that is compatible with the original side case holder but as mentioned, replaces the original rack and contains the Givi M5 plate for Monokey Cases.

3. There is a final plate, the SR684 which can be fitted to the original BMW rack, but won’t fit with the side cases. This plate is in heavy plastic and includes the M5 plate for Monokey Cases.

Side Cases

There are two separate pannier holders for the GS.

1. The PL684, which is the regular pannier holder designed for Monokey cases.

2. The rapid release pannier holders for Monokey boxes part PLR684.

Specific screens

There are two specific screens available for the GS.

1. The 330DT screen which is transparent and measures 51.5cm by 56.5cm and is 14.5 cm higher than the original, you require the fitting kit for this screen which is the D330KIT.

2. An AF330, is a specific sliding windscreen which comes with it’s own fitting kit. Max height of 54cm with adjustment of 12cm.

Engine Guard

If you need an engine guard then Givi make on, the TN689 which protects the underside of the bike from impacts.

There are two main fittings for hard panniers with Givi. The Monokey and the Monokey “Side”. The regular Monokey is the same system that we all know and love, high quality single key lock and detach design with high load bearance.

The Monokey “Side” is a relatively new system introduced by Givi to hold the panniers closer to the bike’s frame and thus increases stability of the bike through mass centralisation and lessened wind turbulence. The systems are not compatible with one another so you need to carefully examine the fitting options available for your bike before selecting your panniers. Try not to select panniers and then see if they will fit your bike as sometimes you cannot have what you really wanted and we don’t like to see grown men and women cry!

Ok so here we go..!

The Givi Trekker Topbox.

First on the list is the rather large and shiny Givi Trekker. It comes in two sizes, 46l and 33lt, it is traditionally a Monokey topcase but gives a good showing as panniers too. You just need to make sure that you’re buying two of them rather than a set of dedicated panniers. Givi recommends that if your bike has it’s exhaust pipe along one side of the bike then fitting the larger Trekker case on the opposite of the exhaust, and the smaller 33 Lt Trekker case alongside the exhaust a natural balance can be achieved.

Givi Trekker Panniers

Trekker Panniers, Trekker Topbox, he loves it.

The Givi E41 Keyless Panniers.

Next up we have the Givi E41 Keyless panniers. These rather smart Panniers are specifically designed unlike the Trekkers that are both a topcase and pannier. As such they are more streamlined and you get two of them in a set rather than just one. Called Keyless for a reason; the panniers are sealed with a combination lock. Each one holds a substantial 41 lt and there are optional, removable internal bags made for them as well. Nice.

Photo copyright Goulash from www.tiger800.co.uk

The Givi E41 Keyless panniers are usually bigger than people think when looking at them online or on paper.

The Givi E36/E45 Topbox.

Similar to the Trekker, the E36 has a larger brother, the E45. Whilst looking identical the E45 offers ~25% more usable space inside and has this classic briefcase look about it. Don’t forget that this is a topbox and so if you want to use them as panniers you’ll need two of them! Again remember that if you have an asymmetric exhaust on your bike then you can toy with the idea of having one larger and one smaller pannier to even out the bulk and weight of the exhaust system.

Givi E45 Panniers copyright Birdie_XX advriders.com

Sleek yet substantial, the E45 Panniers/Topcase.

The Givi E360

The Givi E360 is another solo topcase that can serve as a Monokey pannier when bought in tandem. You might expect this one to hold 36 litres right? Wrong. The £360 has a 40 litre capacity, there is no smaller or larger version of the same design so will be best suited to bikes with centralised or symmetrical exhaust systems.

E360 Panniers - Copyright Sven apriliaforum.com

Quietly Confident, the Givi E360 Panniers.

The Givi E21 Cruiser Panniers.

A dedicated set of panniers designed for cruisers and road bikes they cannot take the usual Monokey load of 10kg, they’ll only hold 5kg however since that is more than 3 helmets in weight there is never usually a problem. Holding a tidy 21 litres each they come with optional chromed bolts and finishings if you’re a HOG or wannabee – Nice!.

Givi E21 Panniers

Style and substance with the Givi E21 cruiser panniers.

That wraps up the Monokey range except for one particular exception to the rule that I mentioned earlier, the Monokey Side system, it has the same one key for all functionality similar to the regular Monokey range but the Monokey Side range can only hold panniers and not any of the above panniers or top cases. Remember they are not compatible with each other. The advantages to this are that Givi have made a fitting system that sits more flush with the bike creating a more streamlined, coherent form. At the moment the only Panniers available for this new Monokey Side case fitting is:

The Givi v35 Panniers.

These new style panniers are exclusive to the Monokey Side fitting kit and as such are closer and sleeker than it’s counterparts on the Monokey Range with better aerodynamic properties and easier fitting.

Givi Monokey Side Panniers V35 Copyright Agmom98 fz6-forum.com

That’s all the of hard panniers in the current Givi range, this list will grow as they add more to the collection and remember that the V35 side cases will not work with any other monokey panner fitting system, it’s different!

Kind Regards;

If you have bought a selection of Givi Monokey hard luggage for your bike and are now finding yourself annoyed at having to use 3 different sets of keys then remember that you can always swap out the lock and barrel for replacement key sets with the same key code.

So if you’re fed up carrying more keys than you need to, have lost your own key/s or perhaps need to replace a barrel and key set due to attempted theft then fear not – they are replaceable.

What are the catches?

The catch is that the Givi v35 Panniers, V46 Panniers, E52 Topcase and the E55 Topcase take a different barrel and key set. So if you have a mixture of these named luggage cases and anything else in the Monokey range you will be stuck with separate keys still.

The available key sets are as follows…

Z1382, Set of five key locks with corresponding bush.

Lock barrels on their own - suitable for V35, V46, E52, E55.

Z661, Lock barrel for case lock.

Z661G, Key for case lock (Thickness 2.5mm)
